Australia’s Rohan Dennis won the opening individual time-trial of the Vuelta a España in Malaga, Spain, today.

The BMC rider set a time of 9:39 in the 8km race against the clock. He finished six seconds ahead of Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky) with Belgium’s Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal) in third and seven seconds back.
Today’s victory makes Dennis the first to wear the red jersey in the tour.
Ryan Gibbons (Dimension Data) was the highest placed South African when he finished 47th and 35 seconds behind Dennis.
Fellow countryman Louis Meintjes (Dimension Data) finished 113th (at 0:00:56) and Johann van Zyl (Dimension Data) 142nd (at 0:01:05).
