Carla Oberholzer won the women’s race at the 947 Cycle Challenge in Johannesburg today.
Demacon’s Oberholzer completed the race in 2:43:49, coming out on top in a four-rider sprint finish against Anriette Schoeman, Joanna van de Winkel and Theresa Ralph.

Team Clover and Demacon set a hard pace early on in the race, before Theresa Ralph surged ahead in a solo lead.
Carla Oberholzer, Anriette Schoeman, Zanri Rossouw, Joanna van de Winkel, Sanet Coetzee, Zanri Rossouw and Juanita Venter composed a chasing group about 40km in.
Van de Winkel then attacked and was followed by Oberholzer and Schoeman – the trio creating a 30-second gap.
Ralph was eventually caught with 12km left, before Oberholzer put in a big attack and was followed by Van de Winkel. Schoeman and Ralph fell back.
Schoeman and Ralph closed the gap with 4km left, before catching up with about 1.5km to go.
It came down to a four-rider sprint off, where Oberholzer managed to take the spoils on the line.
