Joshua van Wyk claimed the African Continental Track Championships omnium title at the Sax Young Cycling Track in Pietermaritzburg yesterday.
The South African accumulated 177 points over the four events – scratch, tempo, elimination and points.
He beat national omnium champ Steven van Heerden into second by 18 points. Algeria’s Yacine Chalel completed the podium.

Egypt’s Eptissam Zayed won the elite women’s omnium, racking up 165 points and beating SA’s Mareosjka Matthee and Ilze Bole into second and third respectively.
South Africa’s Jean Spies won both the elite men’s time-trial and keirin.
