In the wake of his historic Tour Down Under triumph last week, Daryl Impey is set to lead Mitchelton-Scott again at the Great Ocean Road Race in Geelong, Australia, on Sunday.
The South African made history last week by becoming the first rider in the Tour Down Under’s 20-year history to win the race twice in a row.

Last year, despite a mishap, Impey finished third in the 163km one-day event and has made it a priority to bag another victory for the team.
“The Cadel [Evans Great Ocean] Road Race is another important race on the calendar, especially for our team, and it is certainly a course I can do well on,” he said.
“Last year I made a small error in the final [stretch] which cost me the race. Hopefully we can rectify that this year.
“Tour Down Under has given me great confidence going into this year’s event, so hopefully we can go two spots better this year.”
The 34-year-old will spearhead a team that includes Sam Bewley, Luke Durbridge, Alex Edmondson, Lucas Hamilton, Nick Schultz, Callum Scotson, Dion Smith and Robert Stannard.
Amanda Spratt of the Mitchelton-Scott women’s team, who won the women’s Tour Down Under two weeks ago, will lead the team in the women’s version of the race.
