A minute’s silence was held before the start of the second stage of the Tour of Good Hope this morning following the tragic death of a motorcycle marshal during the first stage yesterday.
Erik Oosthuizen, CEO of ASG Events, said the marshal was travelling on the R44 when she collided with a vehicle driven by a member of the public.
She was rushed to hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. A case has been opened with the police.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences to her family and request everyone to respect the nature of the situation in this difficult time,” Oosthuizen said.
No cyclists were involved in the incident.
