Heine Engelbrecht won the solo men’s race on stage one of the Sabie Xperience in Sabie, Mpumalanga, yesterday.
He completed the 65km mountain bike event in 2:54:19, beating Nohan van Tonder (2:54:23) and Emile Fourie (2:58:01).

Samantha Sanders, who won the solo women’s title last year, made a strong start when she claimed the victory on day one in 3:19:16. She was followed by Marli van Eeden (4:08:20) and Alexa Ogilvie (4:29:23).
Mike Odendaal and Arno Matthee (2:36:43) finished first in the 50km men’s team event. Wessel Fourie and Christopher Robertson (2:39:34) came second, followed by Hannes Nel and Pieter le Roux (2:44:25).
The women’s event was won by Yolandi Mostert and Melicia Labuschagne in 3:21:08. Second were Lousanne Ackerman and Santie van der Westhuisen (3:35:43) with Carin Gouws and Renschea Niemandt (3:35:49) rounding out the podium.
Darryl and Caitlin Thompson took the honours in the mixed category (2:50:48) ahead of Anna Gutierrez Hernandez and Ricardo Gutierrez (2:59:59). Christiaan and Neline Kellerman (3:00:30) took third.
