Michael Matthews won stage six of the Volta a Catalunya in a close sprint to the finish in Vila-Seca, Spain, today.
The finale came down to a photo finish between the Sunweb rider from Australia and Bahrain-Merida’s Phil Bauhaus (Germany) but Matthews claimed the victory and his second stage win by a few inches.

South Africa’s Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) and Ryan Gibbons (Dimension Data) came third and seventh respectively in the 169.1km race from Valls.
Astana Pro’s Miguel Angel Lopez (25:53:41) still leads the overall standings and is followed by Mitchelton-Scott’s Adam Yates. Third is Sky’s Egan Bernal.
