Cyclist, administrator and race commissaire Tony Roberts died on Sunday morning after being ill the last couple of months.
Among his many feats as an administrator, the 81-year-old headed up the Southern Transvaal, Professional and Vets cycling unions.
He also promoted the national pro championships, race-directed the Giro de Capo and was the founder of the then Hyper to Hyper, currently still running as the Fast One.
“Our most sincere condolences are extended to the Roberts family on the sad loss of Tony,” said former professional and cycling commentator Johnny Koen.
“He was handy enough as a cyclist as well, representing South Africa on several occasions as a vet.
“Long may the legend of Tony Roberts continue.”
