The Tour de Romandie, which starts today, will be South African Louis Meintjes’s first race since crashing heavily in last month’s Paris-Nice, injuring his groin.
The Dimension Data climber said it was good to finally be lining up for a race again.
“It’s been a slightly frustrating wait, recovering from the crash at Paris-Nice, but I’m glad that is behind me now.
“Romandie will pretty much be like starting my season over again, which can be a good thing because even without knowing what kind of shape I do or don’t have currently we can still only build from here,” Meintjes said.
The 27-year-old will be joined by fellow teammates Giacomo Nizzolo, Danilo Wyss, Gino Mader, Jacques Janse van Rensburg, Jay Thomson and Jaco Venter for the tour that kicks off with a 3.9km prologue in Neuchatel, Switzerland, tomorrow.
The stage race ends on Sunday.
