Caleb Ewan brought stage eight of the Giro d’Italia home when he sprinted to victory in Pesaro today.
The Australian finished the 239km stage from Tortoreto Lido in 5:43:32 to beat Italian Elia Viviani (Deceuninck-QuickStep) and Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe).
Ackermann went for the sprint first but Ewan, who rides for Lotto Soudal, used the final corner to jump from the German’s wheel to take the victory.
Italy’s Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates) retained the overall lead in 35:13:06 ahead Spain’s José Rojas, who trails the leader by one minute and 32 seconds. Italian Giovanni Carboni (Bardiani CSF) lies third and is one minute and 41 seconds down from the race leader.
