Italian Fausto Masnada secured victory on stage six of the Giro d’Italia, which consisted of a 238km route from Cassino to San Giovanni Rotondo, today.
The 25-year-old Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec rider, who completed the course in 5:45:01, beat Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates) into second. The latter also moved into the overall lead.
José Rojas (Movistar Team) completed the podium, with Ruben Plaza (Israel Cycling Academy) and Giovanni Carboni (Bardiani CSF) in fourth and fifth respectively.
Conti, who was second overall in this year’s Tour of Turkey, leads with a total time of 25:22:00. Carboni places second, with Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) third.
“I was targeting both stage win and Maglia Rosa but Fausto is an incredibly strong rider,” said Conti.
“I’m very happy with what I got. For an Italian rider, it’s fantastic. This is my first time leading a stage race. I’m thrilled.”
