Shaun-Nick Bester and Andrew Hill, who lead the men’s team race, feel confident ahead of the final joBerg2c racing stage that starts at Mackenzie Club, Donnybrook, tomorrow.
“Tomorrow is the last racing stage and we’re looking forward to finishing in one piece,” said Bester after winning today’s 82km stage alongside Hill.
He added that it was a fun day out with a lot of singletrack sections.
Sarah Hill, who leads the women’s team race alongside Theresa Ralph, said today was fast, punchy and flat in comparison to yesterday.
“My legs could feel the compounding fatigue, which made today’s stage quite tough. Yesterday was my day to have legs and today Theresa came in super strong.”
Hill added that there were many highlights today.
“There were loads of super smooth flowing singletrack that broke up the dirt road sections. We also had our first floating bridge, which was fun and twisty.”
She felt she gave her all today, but had a bit of an empty tank from the start.
“Technically I feel very on form right now, so races like this really help balance out the strengths.
“Theresa rode beautifully. She showed very little signs of fatigue and kept my spirits up all day. I really love how much work she’s putting into developing me as an athlete.”
Hill said they looked forward to tomorrow’s stage that featured “lots of climbing” and “stunning descents”.
“Tomorrow has the one-of-a-kind Umko Drop. What an amazing way to end the racing part of joBerg2c.”
