British cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart was forced to abandon this year’s Giro d’Italia after crashing while in the breakaway on stage 13 that started in Pinerolo today.
His team confirmed that Geoghegan Hart, who competed in his second grand tour, did not have serious injuries but that a medical report would follow. He was also still nursing injuries from a crash that occured last week.
The Team Ineos rider, who placed second in this year’s Tour of the Alps, was 33rd overall when he headed into his final stage.
Other riders who did not sign on or abandoned during the 196km stage included James Knox (Deceuninck-QuickStep), Roger Kluge (Lotto Soudal), Giacomo Nizzolo (Dimension Data), Ignatas Konovalovas (Groupama-FDJ), Giovanni Lonardi (Nippo-Fantini-Faizanè) and Mark Renshaw (Dimension Data).
