Gert Heyns defended his title when he won the 80km men’s mountain bike race at the Knysna Cycle Tour in Knysna, Western Cape, today.

Heyns, who finished in 3:18:15, beat Marco Joubert (3:20:58) and Robert Hobson (3:24:26) to the finish line.
Last year’s female champion Robyn de Groot led the women’s race home in 3:47:48. She was followed by Hayley Preen (4:04:04) and Courteney Webb (4:14:35).
The 50km men’s event saw Tyler Day (2:08:28) claim the victory ahead of Jamie Penfold (2:10:54) and Tiaan Ebing (2:18:02).
Tiffany Keep won the women’s event when she finished in 2:21:29. Sarah Davies (2:32:31) took second while Sarah-Lee Alcock (2:53:02) rounded out the podium.
Marius Pels (1:33:31) rode to victory in the 30km men’s race, beating Tom Esterhuizen (1:37:29) and Wouter Kruger (1:39:12) to the title.
Anne Pienaar (2:00:02) claimed first place in the women’s competition while Alissa Coetzer (2:01:34) and Lynda Verheij (2:04:12) placed second and third respectively.
The 15km men’s event was won by Matthew Brink. Second was Beau Zijlstra (0:54:27), followed by Ahkien Fortuin (0:56:50).
Sarah Brown (0:59:33) grabbed the women’s title ahead of Nattalie Moos (0:59:52) and Rebecca Jacobs (0:59:54).
