Defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton-Scott) won stage six’s individual time-trial at the Giro Rosa in Teglio yesterday.
The Dutch star completed the 12km route, which started in Chiuro, in a time of 24:32.
Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans Cyclingteam) was runner-up, with Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo) third.
South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio placed 26th.
“It wasn’t as long or as brutal as last year so I knew I couldn’t take as much time today but to almost take one minute in 12km is quite a lot,” said Van Vleuten.
She also extended her overall lead, with Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) second on the GC and Van der Breggen third.
“We will take it day by day and I will need to stay super focused until Sunday. I did a recon of the stages so I know what is coming up and it’s not easy, especially the next three days, but my teammates are very strong,” said Van Vleuten.
