The cycling community was left reeling this morning after the sad news of Wicus Kotze’s passing last night.
Kotze, an executive at Bestmed Medical Scheme, was admitted to hospital after a minibus ploughed into a group of cyclists at the Cycle4Cansa road race at Sun City on Sunday.
Kotze was in a critical condition and underwent brain surgery on the same day.
His wife Marietjie confirmed his passing in a public message last night and thanked everyone for their messages of support since the incident.
The driver of the minibus reportedly made no attempt to slow down or swerve out of the way and was arrested at the scene.
“This is such a senseless act which has caused so much sadness and heartache,” race organiser Mauritz Meyer said after the incident.
