Marco Joubert and Nicol Carstens were the men’s team winners on stage four of the Cape Pioneer Trek that finished at Langenhoven Gimnasium in Oudtshoorn today.
Jan Withaar and Henry Liebenberg crossed the line in second, with HB Kruger and Nico Bell third.
“From the moment we set off we were out for the stage win,” said Carstens.
“The hardest part was staying patient enough to launch our attack. Once we got the chance, we pushed as hard as we could and didn’t look back.”
The women’s team event was won by Theresa Ralph and Sarah Hill, who beat Samantha Sanders and Amy McDougall into second. Nicky Giliomee and Cherise Willeit completed the podium.
“Sam hasn’t spoken much about it, but she started the race with an injury in her piriformis that is only worsening as the days go by,” said McDougall.
“She just pushes through without complaining, and that’s everything I could ask for in a partner. Our goal is just to finish at this stage, and we’re just aiming to get through day by day.”
Shaun-Nick Bester and Marisa van der Linde won the respective solo men’s and women’s races.
