Martin Schuttert and Nicky Giliomee were the respective men’s and women’s solo winners on stage one of the Dr Evil Classic that took place at the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve yesterday.
Schuttert completed the 70.6km stage in 2:49:49, with Matthew Leppan second. Siphe Ncapayi completed the podium.
Giliomee finished her race in 3:09:20, beating Nikki Biesheuvel and Louise Ferreira into second and third respectively.
“Everyone is just here to relax and enjoy their bikes. It makes it so special. Personally, I don’t know how I am going to feel on the fourth day of racing,” said Giliomee.
“Stage two and three will definitely feature more singletrack, especially the last day in the Harkerville Forest. This race caters for all and everyone enjoys it. So, I’m really looking forward to the next two days.”
Stage two, which features a 45km route with 880m of climbing, will start and finish at Kurland Hotel today.
