Sebastian Stark won the men’s race at this year’s Karoo to Coast in Knysna today.
He finished the 96km ultra-marathon mountain bike race in 3:19:53, beating Waylon Woolcock and Craig Boyes into second and third respectively.
Dusty Day finished fourth, with Stuart Biesheuvel fifth.
“I attacked on the second climb. Waylon went with me, but of course he would not share the work as he had his teammates chasing,” said Stark.
“So, I decided to get clear of him and ride my own race. It was pretty much a time-trial for the last two hours.”
The women’s event was won by Nicky Giliomee, with Odette Guy second and Annerie van Velden third.
Johanet Cilliers placed fourth and Leone Verster fifth.
“It was really rough. It was so cold out there. I’m really happy I made it to the finish in one piece,” said Giliomee.
Freddie Visser and Kayleigh Gultig were crowned the U23 men’s and women’s champions.
