Carel van Wyk was the second highest placed South African after he finished eight in the 80km race from Cairns.
Australian Michael England was the one who claimed the stage honours with Spaniard Brandan Marquez Fernandez in second.
The women’s race saw Switzerland’s Angelika Tazreiter take the victory.
