Frenchman Raymond Poulidor has died in hospital at the age of 83, as reported by AFP today.
Poulidor, whose career spanned 25 years and who finished second in the Tour de France three times, had been in hospital since early October with fatigue.
During his time on the bike from 1960 to 1977, he claimed 189 victories, which included wins in the Tour of Spain, Dauphine Libere and the Paris-Nice.
Poulidor is grandfather to Mathieu van der Poel, who won gold at the European Cyclo-cross Championships on Sunday.
