Swedish mountain biker Jennie Stenerhag proved strongest in the women’s race to take this year’s Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge title at the Great Brak River today.
Stenerhag, who placed third last year, completed the 121km race in 5:54:23.
Robyn de Groot crossed the line shortly afterwards to claim second position. Barbara Benko completed the podium.
“It’s been a very long time coming – my eighth attempt. It was so nice to finally take this win,” said Stenerhag.
“One of the few races that I’ve done so many times that I’ve never won.”
She added that it was very nice to ride with De Groot again.
“We know each other so well. I know exactly how she rides – she rides very nicely and we ride well together, so it worked very well.
“Then I played some tactics at the end. I lost it last year because I was too much of a chicken on that last downhill, so this time I thought I’m just going to go for it.”
