Ben Melt Swanepoel showed strength and endurance to win the gruelling 160km Ride The Karoo mountain bike race which was held in the Sneeuberg region at the weekend.

The 43-year-old completed the solo men’s race in 6:02:01. Vickus Boshoff finished just over 15 minutes later, with Rassie Smit crossing the line a further10 minutes back.
“I’m experienced enough to know that results aren’t always a true reflection of a race but at the same time they are an important measure,” said the Team Garmin MTB rider, who was competing in the event for the first time.
