Recently crowned U23 time-trial and road race national champion Frances Janse van Rensburg was pleasantly surprised to finish second in the first leg of the SA MTB Cup Series at Mbombela, Mpumalanga, yesterday.

Janse van Rensburg crossed the finish line a minute behind Danielle Strydom, while Lehane Oosthuizen finished third.
“It feels really good and it’s a nice surprise,” Janse van Rensburg said.
“Honestly my only goal was to have fun, race as hard as I can and stay safe in the technical parts.
“I had no other expectations and didn’t put any pressure on myself.”
