Geoffrey Merrick, who was found guilty of culpable homicide after the death of Dr Koos Roux, has withdrawn his appeal and will serve his three-year jail sentence, Stay Wider of the Rider announced on their social platforms today.
The incident happened in May, 2013, when Roux was cycling with his son on Bottelary Road, Stellenbosch, well within the shoulder of the road.
Merrick crashed into Roux, who was 59 at the time, and then fled the scene. He was arrested 10 days later after debris at the scene was found to match his car.
