Belgian’s Jasper Stuyven outsprinted countryman Yves Lampaert to win the 75th running of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad semi-classic in Ninove, Belgium, today.

The duo were part of the final selection of three riders – which also included Denmark’s Soren Kragh Andersen – over the Bosberg, the final cobbled climb of the 220km ride.
Following the descent and a flatish run-in to the finishing town, a stinging attack by Stuyven in the last three kilometres accounted for the Dane, who eventually trailed in a few seconds after the top two.
“Staying up near the front for me was probably the best thing I can do and I think this is the biggest win for me,” the Trek-Segafredo strongman said.
Referring to last season, he said they “were in a really good group” that finished the season well – including Mads Pedersen winning the elite road title in England.
“We were really motivated to keep this vibe going and I think that today it turned out really well.”
Italy’s danger man, Matteo Trentin, just failed latch on to the leading trio on the Bosberg, which topped out 13km from the finish, and crossed the line in a lonely fourth.
