Former U23 world champion Alan Hatherly won the elite men’s race at the first leg of the SA MTB Cup Series in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, today.

The Specialized Factory rider completed the seven-lap course in 1:24:27 to finish just under two minutes ahead of Wessel Botha (Team NAD) with Namibia’s Alexander Miller close behind.
The women’s race was won by Danielle Strydom, who placed ahead of Frances Janse van Rensburg (Absolute Motion) and Lehane Oosthuizen.
