This year’s JBay Wind Farm MTB Classic has been cancelled due to fears relating to the spreading of the coronavirus, the organisers have announced.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Friday that gatherings or events involving more than 100 people are prohibited.
The eighth edition of the event, which consists of 85km, 50km and 25km races, would have taken place at Twin Valley Estate on June 13.
“We are disappointed to have to cancel this event that brings our communities together each year, but due to the size of the event and the associated health risks, the event is not viable [under the restrictions],” said Pieter Oosthuizen, managing director of the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.
A number of events in South Africa and around the globe have been cancelled over the last few weeks in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
