Organisers have announced that entries for 2021 Tankwa Trek, which takes place in the Koue Bokkeveld from February 4 to 7, open at noon on Tuesday.
The first UCI stage race of the year consists of four stages of 24.5km, 84km, 89km and 88km. The route is through the mountains near Ceres in the Western Cape.
The announcement was made earlier today, the first of a 21-day lockdown period in South Africa due to the coronavirus.
“We’d like to assure all that their entry fees to the 2021 Tankwa Trek will be refunded, in full, should the race be cancelled due to Covid-19,” said event director Henco Rademeyer.
He added that the physical and mental health of participants was of the utmost importance to them as organisers.
“Personally, I know that if I have an event to train for and look forward to it helps me stay motivated.
“We’d like to provide an opportunity to maintain that motivation through this event.
“We look forward to hosting mountain bikers from around the world in the Koue Bokkeveld every year,” said Rademeyer.
