The 32-year-old completed the 27.6km race, held on the cobbled loop of the Richmond Worlds circuit, in 36:21.
The fast-charging Samuel Brannlund just failed to catch him, finishing around two seconds of the pace. Lionel Vujasin completed the podium.
Alpecin-Fenix’s Mathieu van der Poel and several of his teammates took part, but failed to make the top-10.
