Canyon Bicycles SA is offering a zero-interest payment plan, Splitit, to make it easier for cyclists to purchase its products.
This payment choice covers instalments over a period of two to six months and applies to any equipment bought through Canyon’s online store. There is no limitation on the minimum or maximum value of goods purchased.
Flexible payment solutions
Canyon SA market manager Erik Kleinhans said the bicycle retailer’s desire was to assist customers with convenient methods of payment, something which was becoming increasingly diverse in online businesses.
“We want to make sure that we can offer payment solutions which are flexible and also provide value for customers.”
He said the plan worked by reserving the full order amount on the customer’s credit or debit card.
Then, each month, according to the chosen personal payment plan, Splitit collects the instalment amount and reissues the authorisation request for the remaining balance.
“The instalments appear on the customer’s billing statement as individual charge items on a monthly basis and always with the same amount.”
Ride now, pay later
Kleinhans said there was significant value for the customer.
“With zero percent interest, it allows customers to ride now and pay later. In this way we feel it has become affordable to purchase your dream bike.
“This option is permanently available to all Canyon customers and it covers your bike and any accessories you may choose to order with it.”
By placing orders through the Canyon website, he said customers would follow a straightforward process.
“Once the goods are chosen, the buyer will complete the first two steps in the checkout process, which are email address entry [step 1] and shipping details [step 2].
“Under step 3, the customer can choose their preferred payment method. Once the customer clicks on the Splitit button, additional information will be displayed.”
Kleinhans added that the payment plan would start when the equipment was ready to be shipped to the customer’s address.
“If the bike is in stock, obviously we will courier it without any delay, but the issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic means there will be a two to four-week waiting period for stock to arrive from abroad.
“This is double the normal time.”
Kleinhans said customers who required additional information were welcome to visit him at the Canyon Café in Stellenbosch or to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
