Mauritius-born cyclist Kim le Court has got what promises to be busy 2021 off to a perfect start.
In her first race of the year – an event she didn’t initially have on her calendar – Le Court rode to victory in the third leg of the Pursuit Challenge at Buffelsdrift Trail Park in Pretoria.
Speaking to In the Bunch, a pleasantly surprised Le Court said that although she loved the race, it came as a shock to the system.
“It was my first race of the year and I really enjoyed the pursuit format.
“It wasn’t in my plans to race it, but due to the Covid-19 situation I decided to enter.
“I performed better than I expected with only five to six weeks of training and no intensity training as yet, but it certainly was a bit of a shock to the system.”
Le Court covered the 45km route in 1:49:59. Samantha Sanders took second place in 1:51:55, with Theresa Ralph third in 1:53:30.
Primarily a road rider to date, Le Court has dabbled in more mountain biking events in recent times.
Still only 24 years old, the former African Games road and cross-country marathon champion is comfortable on both tar and trail.
With the coronavirus pandemic likely to continue to impact the cycling calendar this season, Le Court hasn’t set her schedule in stone. She does however have some “big goals”, which includes stage races like the Cape Epic and one-day classics such as the Cape Town Cycle Tour, which she won in 2018.
“Let’s see how the year goes. For now, all I can do is be patient and train,” the Galileo-Infinity-Spot rider concluded.
