Belgian star Wout van Aert has extended his contract with Jumbo-Visma for another three years until 2024.
Still only 26 years old, Van Aert’s star is on the rise after a series of stellar results in recent years.
Despite cycling in 2020 having been hard-hit by Covid-19 cancellations and postponements, Van Aert found time to win several high-profile events, including Milan-San Remo and Strade Bianche.
He also won two stages in last year’s Tour de France and the points classification at the Criterium du Dauphine.
At the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Imola, Van Aert took the silver medal in both the road race and time-trial.
“I am a very proud member of Jumbo-Visma,” Van Aert said at the team’s training camp in Alicante in Spain.
“We have become the best team in the world. It was best for me to stay.
“I am glad that it is done and I am relieved that I can speak out about it,” he said, after it had been rumoured he may switch to British outfit Ineos.
Jumbo-Visma were a regular sight at the head of the peloton in 2020 in their striking, wasp-like yellow and black outfits.
