Italian sprinter Elia Viviani has joined his Cofidis teammates at a training camp in Spain.
The 2016 Rio de Janiero Olympic omnium champion has been off his bike for three weeks after noticing an anomaly in his heart rate.
He was sent to hospital to undergo urgent cardiac examinations.
The results of those tests saw Viviani undergo atrial ablation surgery to treat a cardiac arrhythmia.
Thankfully, all seems fine with the 31-year-old who posted an update as to his progress in Instagram, writing: “B A C K to training #happyday,”
Viviano is set to make his 2021 debut at the UAE Tour from February 21 to 27, followed by Tirreno-Adriatico and the one-day classics.
In addition to his gold medal in Rio, Viviani also won a stage in the 2019 Tour de France, three stages in the 2018 Vuelta a Espana and five stages in total as well as the points classification in the 2018 Giro d’Italia.
