South Africa’s two participants in the UAE Tour are both in top 30 positions in the overall standings heading into today’s stage four.
Louis Meintjes (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux) put in a commendable performance in Tuesday’s climb up the famed Jebel Hafeet to move himself up the GC order to 23rd, 11:17 behind leader Tadej Pogacar.
Thanks to his inspired eighth-place finish in Monday’s stage two individual time-trial, as well as an impressive summit of Jebel Hafeet, Stefan de Bod (Astana-Premier Tech) lies 30th heading into Wednesday’s 204km flat stage around Al Marjan Island.
He is 12:19 adrift of the reigning Tour de France champion in the leader’s red jersey.
Today’s stage shouldn’t see significant changes to the overall standings, but Thursday’s second summit of Jebel Hafeet will no doubt shake up the order.
