Carla Oberholzer was one of a number of star performers for South Africa at the recently concluded African Continental Road Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The 34-year-old from Clarens in the Free State’s luggage will be a little heavier on the return trip having won a “perfect” four gold medals from as many races after showcasing her all-round abilities in North Africa.
While the individual time-trial title was Oberholzer’s main aim heading into the championships, the four top-step podium finishes came as a bonus.
“Four gold medals was definitely an unexpected bonus,” Oberholzer told In the Bunch.
“Based on the original course information we had my main goal was the ITT and to assist the team in winning gold in the road race,” she confirmed.
