The UCI WorldTour event, which features seven stages, started in Lido di Camaiore, Italy, today and ends in San Benedetto del Tronto.
Britain’s Simon Yates returns to defend his title, but faces a host of household names challenging for top honours. The “Race of the Two Seas” has attracted the last three Tour de France winners – Geraint Thomas, Egan Bernal and Tadej Pogacar – as well as Vincenzo Nibali and Nairo Quintana.
In addition Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Julian Alaphilippe and Peter Sagan will all look to stamp their authority on what will be the 56th edition of the race.
