Adam Yates picked up his first victory for his new team Ineos on stage three of the Volta a Catalunya today.
The 28-year-old Englishman broke clear with 3km remaining of the climb to Vallter 2000.
Esteban Chaves (BikeExchange) finished second 13 seconds behind with Alejandro Valverde in third a further six seconds adrift.
Yates’ win was Ineos’ second in as many days after Rohan Dennis won stage two’s 18.5km individual time-trial.
“We had to keep the break under control, because at the beginning they gained a lot of time,” Yates said post-stage.
