National road and time-trial champion Juanita Venter, who rides for Bestmed-ASG, won the time-trial event at the UCI Amateur Road World Championships in Ljublijana, Slovenia, today.
After her race she tweeted:
@juanita_cycle: “Thanks to every single person for the part you’ve played in my success today. Big thanks to my team @TeamBestmed_asg and sponsors. Grateful!”
It was the first time that the 38-year-old – who won both the time-trial and road titles at the national championships earlier this year – had represented South Africa at international level.
She also notched up notable time-trial victories at the Bestmed Tour de Boland in March and Lowveld Tour earlier this month.
Before the Worlds she said, ” . . . each event is like writing on a clean slate. You’re only as good as your last result.”
She will now shift her focus to Sunday’s road race.
