A visiting Danish MTB Team preparing for this weekend’s STIHL XCO Cup Series race was attacked at the Voortrekker Monument in Gauteng yesterday, despite the perimeter being equipped with a game fence with security guards patrolling.
Swift action by the event organisers resulted in deployment of a police helicopter and one suspect was apprehended whilst still on the property.
Additional security has been deployed for official training and race day.
The athletes, although traumatised by the incident, remained unharmed.
