The German rider just missed a top 10 spot and finished in 14th place.
Jacques Janse van Rensburg was the first South African across the line in 18th place today, with his MTN-Qhubeka team mate and fellow SA rider Louis Meintjes also cracking a top 25 position in 24th.
Team Sky’s Chris Froome won the 167km stage today and holds onto the yellow jersey after opening up a substantial gap in the overall classification.
