MTN-Qhubeka’s Edvald Boasson Hagen moved into the yellow jersey after stage five of the Tour of Britain on Thursday.
The former champion came home just two seconds behind stage winner Wout Poels of Team Sky on the only finishing ascent of the tour.
Boasson Hagen started the day in second on the GC and his stage time of 4:12:24 saw him take a single second overall lead over Poels.
Juan Lobato of Movistar lost the lead after finishing 89th on the day and dropping to 41st in the standings.
