Former world road cycling champion Mark Cavendish is set to ride the 2016 season for the African ProContinental team MTN-Qhubeka, according to a report in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Cavendish and Team Dimension Data, as it will be known next season, are said to have been in discussions, which were reportedly contingent on him bringing a major sponsor on board.
Should the 30-year-old sign with the African team, he will rejoin former Team Sky and HTC-Highroad teammate Bernhard Eisel. It is also rumoured that Cavendish is working to bring lead-out man Mark Renshaw across.
He is also allegedly being headhunted by Trek Factory Racing.
In an exclusive interview with Cyclingnews, Cavendish was cagey about his prospects for next season, saying there was nothing definite to talk about just yet.
“More than saying I know something and I can’t tell, I really don’t know. Hopefully I have a job next year.”
