Dimension Data will take up the title sponsorship of Africa’s only UCI Professional Continental cycling team, MTN-Qhubeka, for the 2016 season.
The global ICT solutions and services provider is already involved with the sport as official technology partner of Tour de France owners ASO.
This year, sensors under Le Tour participants’ saddles allowed Dimension Data to process and analyse rider data for fans to follow on the race data site throughout the 21-stage tour.
Team MTN-Qhubeka was one of five wild-card team entries and finished an impressive fifth overall on debut.
As new title sponsor of the African team, Dimension Data will help the team to leverage technology on and off the bike to accelerate their ambitions.
Group CEO Brett Dawson said their joint goal was to take the team and African cycling to new heights.
“We want to help develop African riders into professional cyclists who will compete in some of the greatest cycling events across the world.”
Dawson confirmed that Dimension Data would continue to support and raise funds for the Qhubeka and World Bicycle Relief initiative, which puts children on bicycles across the continent.
