Mountain biker William “Weeleyum” Mokgopo has cracked the nod as a nominee in the Sport Personality of the Year category at this year’s Gauteng Sports Awards.
Professional mountain biker William Makgopo has been nominated for Sport Personality of the Year at the 2015 Gauteng Sports Awards. The category is one of three with outcomes based purely on the votes of the public.
The winner, who must be a positive influence and a good role model for aspiring young athletes, will be decided purely on public votes.
Popular Mokgopo is a deserving candidate who juggles his full-time sport science studies at the University of Pretoria and a pro mountain biking career with the Kargo Pro team.
In his spare time, he assists with various community development initiatives, such as promoting safer cycling in th Fourways-Diepsloot area during Cycle Jozi Week.
Mokgopo has provincial and national sporting colours and has represented Johannesburg as a Beyond Sport Young Ambassador at the global Beyond Sport network.
