Sauser, who announced his retirement from professional racing this season, said he and Looser would still give the field a run for their money.
“As mountain bikers Konny and I are well balanced. We can climb, have good endurance and are fast on the technical trails.”
Looser described the event’s smooth trails as “surfing in the forest”.
“Although finishing first in 2014 was a nice victory, the biggest victory for me was the pleasure of racing with Susi. Of course if you win a race once, you definitely want to win it again.”
They will face competition from the likes of Gawie Combrinck and Johann Rabie as well as Erik Kleinhans and James Reid.
Kleinhans said Wines2Whales was one of the highlights of the national mountain biking calendar.
“It’s our last serious race of the season and apart from that it is also always good fun.”
“I love that Wines2Whales is a point-to-point race,” says Reid.
“It’s a real highlights reel of some of the best areas in the Western Cape.”
The pro teams will compete for their share of a total prize purse of R381 500.
