Cycling South Africa announced today that mountain biker Rourke Croeser had returned an adverse analytical finding in an out-of-competition test.
The report released after the test, which was conducted on August 30, confirmed the presence of Recombinant EPO in his urine sample.
Croeser then opted to have his B-sample analysed and this confirmed the finding of the original test.
In accordance with the rules laid down by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport, Croeser has been placed under provisional suspension as of October 8, when he was notified of the finding.
His case has been referred to the Independent Doping Hearing Panel for adjudication.
CSA president William Newman said the national body would respect the independence of the SAIDS process and its ultimate outcome.
