Attempts by ASG Events to establish the Bestmed Tour of Good Hope as South Africa’s flagship event have been boosted by a major sponsorship commitment from international cycling brand Scicon.
The Italian-based company have already been involved in backing the tour, but they have now increased their support in a two-year deal of R3.6-million.
ASG chief executive Wynand de Villiers said the sponsorship would assist them in maintaining the high standards they had set themselves.
“We remain committed to increase the value offering and rider experience every year,” he said of the Cycling SA-backed event.
ASG International chief executive Heinrich Dannhauser was thrilled with the support of Scicon for the five-day race, which will be held in the Western Cape from March 6 next year.
“As a leading brand in world cycling, this will help to increase the appeal of the event, which is already attracting a significant contingent of international riders,” said Dannhauser.
Scicon international sales manager Chris Pearce said the company, which was started in 1980, had a strong connection with the country through ASG.
“We are in the business of engineering and manufacturing bike bags, cases and protection, and are established as the global leader of bike transportation,” he said.
He added that their objective was to ensure stress-free travel for participants.
“We offer a range of products to transport and protect bicycles and equipment needed when travelling to a race. We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to bring their bikes with them.”
The riders will benefit from the sponsorship as each participant will receive a customised Scicon racing bag valued at more than R1 600 each.
