Britain’s Mark Cavendish took his fourth stage win of the 2016 Tour de France and the 30th of his career when he won the 14th stage between Montelimar and Villars-les-Dombes Parc des Oiseaux today.
The Dimension Data sprinter crossed the line in 5:43:49 to beat Katusha’s Alexander Kristoff and Tinkoff’s Peter Sagan in the dash to the line after 208.5km of racing.
“I saw QuickStep coming back and knew Kittel was left out in the front quite soon in this head wind,” said Cavendish.
“I thought wait, wait, wait, let him die and then come around him. I jumped around him and obviously went to the right a bit and he’s kicked off a bit, but I was way past him, so I don’t think there was anything wrong there. He’s just frustrated I got four and he hasn’t.”
