The organisers of the Cape Town Cycle Tour have announced a shortened route for the 40th race due to protest action this morning.
The statement reads as follows:
Due to protest action unrelated to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and damage to the road-surface on the route, the 2017 Cycle Tour will be diverted at Glencairn Expressway and participants will be redirected over Glencairn Hill to Sun Valley and on to Chapman’s Peak.
This will decrease the route from 109km to approximately 78km. Furthermore, the Women’s Invitational Race will now begin at the official Start line in Hertzog Boulevard at 6.27am.
While this diversion is regrettable, our riders’ safety is of paramount importance and the decision to reroute has not been taken lightly.
